Fall Transcendence: An 8-Week Journey to Cultivate Self-Compassion and Creativity

Self-compassion is a superpower we carry with us, yet many of us are unaware of its profound benefits. According to Dr. Kristin Neff, self-compassion is not only good for you, but it’s also linked to a range of life-enhancing outcomes: greater motivation, stronger relationships, improved mental health, increased happiness, better sleep, enhanced immune function, and even reduced physical pain.

In this 8-week course, we will embark on a journey of self-discovery, weaving the powerful practice of self-compassion into our daily lives. By learning how to treat ourselves with kindness, mindfulness, and an understanding of our shared humanity, we can unlock our full potential, improve emotional resilience, and open the doors to greater creativity.

Each week, we will explore a unique theme:

  1. Seeds of Spontaneity – Embrace the unknown and nurture your creative spark.
  2. Cultivating Connection – Build meaningful relationships by connecting deeply with yourself and others.
  3. Transcending Limitations – Break through self-imposed boundaries and expand your potential.
  4. Finding Your Improv Voice – Tap into your authentic self and express it freely.
  5. The Power of Play – Rediscover joy, playfulness, and creativity as essential parts of well-being.
  6. Nature’s Inspiration – Draw wisdom and creativity from the natural world around us.
  7. Transcending the Ordinary – See life through a lens of wonder and possibility.
  8. Harvesting Creativity – Reflect on the journey and celebrate the growth you’ve cultivated.

Class Structure:

  • We will begin with an intention and motivation for the session.
  • Facilitator-led talk on the week’s theme, incorporating readings and reflections.
  • Guided self-compassion practice to deepen the learning experience.
  • Group discussion on the weekly reading, home practice, and journaling insights.

Together, we will cultivate a compassionate, creative mindset that transcends daily challenges and opens us up to new possibilities.

The focus of this term is to change along with the color of the leaves.

The only required materials are Kristin Neff”s Self Compassion.

We will reference Dacher Keltner’s Awe and Scott Barry Kaufman’s Transcend throughout the term.
